Beyond the Pitch
VentureNEXT to Honor Corporations and Students with Awards
Central Ohio is a terrific place to start a company. Ask any entrepreneur.
One giant reason that our geography is so favorable is that local businesses really walk the talk when it comes to supporting startups. That’s especially true for the dozens of companies that participate in TechColumbus’ Expert and First Connect Networks.
Another huge plus for Central Ohio is that we have a highly educated and increasingly technical workforce that comes from the outstanding colleges and universities in the 15-county Central Ohio region.
VentureNEXT will shine the spotlight on companies that are investing their own resources to further commercialization and innovation here as well as providing scholarship funding to outstanding students who are our hope and promise of future entrepreneurship and technical achievement.
VentureNEXT 2014 Corporate Engagement Awards
The 2014 Corporate Engagement Awards will recognize at least one outstanding Central Ohio-based company for its above-and-beyond contribution to the Innovation Economy.
Since inception, Expert Network firms have committed more than 8000 hours and more than $2.3 million in pro bono and discounted activities to provide professional services to promising startups.
Numerous First Connect companies have provided startups introductions, advice, and have even served as strategic partners and/or early adopters for some nascent technologies.
VentureNEXT 2014 Student Awards
Innovation doesn’t happen without a steady pipeline of well-educated workers with technical and problem-solving skills. That pipeline starts in the classrooms of our high schools, colleges, and universities. It grows when the business community adds its direct mentoring and financial support.
For the College Awards, VentureNEXT will award $2500 in scholarship dollars to each of two students attending a college or university in the 15-county Central Ohio region: Delaware, Fairfield, Fayette, Franklin, Hocking, Knox, Licking, Logan, Madison, Marion, Morrow, Perry, Pickaway, Ross, and Union counties. The College Awards are open to both graduate and undergraduate students. At least one award winner will be undergraduate.
For the High School Student Awards, two outstanding students will receive $2,500.00, placed into a 529 college savings account on their behalf.
At VentureNEXT, you will have the opportunity to meet the corporate leaders and service providers who, through their direct participation with startups and entrepreneurs, are helping create jobs and wealth in Central Ohio.
And you’ll see some of our best and brightest high school and college students—the kind of young people that any organization would be lucky to hire.
