X Squared Angels Invests in Women-led Companies

More than 126 million women entrepreneurs were starting or running new businesses in 67 economies in 2012.

The number of US women-owned businesses increased by nearly 60 percent since 1997, nearly 1.5 times the national average. Privately held women-owned firms have added an estimated 175,000 jobs to the US economy since 2007

X Squared Angels, Ohio’s first angel group formed to invest in women-led startups, started less than a year ago. Their momentum since then has been amazing.

The group, which welcomes male and female members has grown to 18 members (60/40 female/male). Of the more than 40 companies from all over the US and Canada that the company has screened, 12 (7 from Ohio) presented to the membership. X Squared Angels has made one equity investment and one bridge loan.

X Squared Angels looks for high potential early stage companies with at least one woman at the C-level who owns significant equity.

The group is inclusive and will consider most industries, including consumer goods, in the North American geography. About half the companies that X Squared Angels has reviewed so far are Ohio firms.

X Squared Angels will have office hours at TechColumbus for entrepreneurs on Wednesdays, between 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. by appointment.
