Updox Achieves Complete DirectTrust.org/EHNAC HISP, RA, and CA Accreditations for Its Direct Secure Messaging

Accreditation Demonstrates Updox Adherence to Highest Standards of Quality, Privacy, and Security for More than 45 EHR Partners using Direct Messaging Network

Dublin, Ohio, June 24, 2014 – Updox, the industry leader for physician connectivity and CRM solutions for health care, announced the organization achieved full accreditation with the Direct Trusted Agent Accreditation Program (DTAAP) as a Health Information Service Provider/Registration Authority/Certificate Authority (HISP/RA/CA) from DirectTrust.org and the Electronic Healthcare Network Accreditation Commission (EHNAC). Accreditation by EHNAC certifies that an organization’s Direct secure messaging services meet HIPAA and HITECH requirements, industry standards, and Direct Project regulations. Updox is one of just 12 organizations having received each of the three HISP/RA/CA accreditations from EHNAC.

EHNAC is the premier accreditation authority promoting standards that support interoperability, stakeholder trust, regulatory compliance, quality service, innovation, and open competition within healthcare. EHNAC evaluated Updox business, privacy, security, and confidentiality practices, as well as its technical performance and Direct exchange resources. By earning this meaningful third-party accreditation, Updox demonstrates to customers it provides the highest level of quality, compliance, industry compatibility and enhanced partner relationships.

“What does accreditation mean for Updox customers? EHNAC accreditation provides another level of value to the Updox Direct Network (UDN), the largest in the nation built on Direct, with more than 45 electronic health record (EHR) vendors and representing 140,000 physicians,” said Michael Morgan, chief executive officer, Updox. “Customers within the UDN can easily and securely exchange email with anyone else who is also EHNAC certified. Securely exchanging of health information is an essential component of improving the speed, safety, quality and cost of patient care.”

EHNAC is a self-governing standards development organization (SDO) that certifies entities involved in the electronic exchange of healthcare-related data, including HIEs, e-prescribers, and medical billers. The accreditation process includes an application, a self-assessment and a site visit to the organization home office and data centers.

“Endorsed by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC), the Direct Trusted Agent Accreditation Program ensures that organizations like Updox establish and uphold a superior level of trust for their stakeholders,” says Lee Barrett, executive director, EHNAC. “The need in the marketplace for guidance and accountability in health information exchange is undeniable, and we applaud Updox’s commitment to the highest standards in privacy, security and confidentiality.”
