What, Why & How: Creating Core Messaging
How you talk about your business in your core messaging is foundational for all of your marketing. A boilerplate is a paragraph with general information about your company that goes at the bottom of a press release. This messaging is the catalyst for creating marketing materials that will land customers, go on your website, and get press coverage.
The boilerplate should follow a simple formula stating three key points: what you do, why it matters, and how it’s different from others. In this session, we will use cross-industry examples and team breakouts to create your company’s boilerplate message.

Kristy Campbell, Chief Operating Officer, Rev1 Ventures
Kristy has spent her 20+ year career working with – and within – tech startups to help them build their brand, grow revenue and scale. As Rev1’s COO and resident CMO, she leads the entrepreneur programs and partnerships that support Rev1’s portfolio growth. Kristy also works directly with companies to implement focused sales and marketing efforts, helping companies generate awareness, first customers, and a repeatable sales pipeline. Kristy previously held executive-level positions with Manta.com – the largest online small business directory, and Saama Technologies, a leading Business Intelligence services firm. Kristy has a BS in Journalism from Ohio University and an MBA from Ashland University. She is a frequent speaker on startup marketing and contributor to entrepreneur resources like Inc, Entrepreneur and OPEN Forum.
Heather Harmon, Director of Marketing, Rev1 Ventures
Heather leads Rev1’s corporate marketing and communications initiatives. She is an expert at developing innovative marketing strategies to support and accelerate a business’ vision and plans.
